Let’s hang out on Bluesky + other updates

Hi there Reader,

What’s not a dumpster fire right now?*

Because every day there’s bad news, everywhere, all around us.

Our politicians despise us.

Higher education is a mess.

Healthcare is a mess.

Climate crisis, genocide, war…

And, in lesser bad news, Twitter seems truly and fully gone, dead, done.

So I’ve (maybe for good) decamped to Bluesky, because I do actually want to like social media.

I’m a solo person in life and work (other than my clients), and that means I go online in part to hang out with other people.

Maybe you do too.

Bluesky seems like a decent spot to try to do that.

I have the same handle there that I have elsewhere: FromPhDtoLife.

See you there?

Here are some neat things you can do on Bluesky other than the usual stuff you’re used to from Twitter.

Or, we can be in conversation on LinkedIn. It’s not a bad place, promise. A bit staid, but maybe that’s just me (no, I blame Microsoft).

What’s Happening

The text is centered on a teal background, with the words 'Freelancing' and 'Consulting' in bold white, and 'and Other Ways to Earn a Buck While Job Searching' in a combination of white and bold yellow. Surrounding the text are various white icons representing collaboration, LinkedIn, money, a light bulb, and communication, symbolizing job searching, freelancing, and consulting activities.

*My living room is looking good, though! I bought new cushions and finished a gallery wall above my sofa.

A cozy and stylish living room viewed from a desk. The focal point is a gallery wall above a light gray sofa, featuring 14 wooden-framed photos arranged symmetrically. The sofa is adorned with mustard yellow and rust-colored throw pillows, along with a textured blanket draped casually. In front of the sofa, a small ottoman covered with a beige knitted throw serves as a coffee table, holding a light blue tray. To the right, a vibrant mustard yellow armchair with a matching ottoman is accented by a gray pillow and a red throw blanket. A modern white floor lamp stands nearby, and a framed Red Cross poster reading "The Greatest Mother in the World" hangs on the wall above. On the left side of the room, a tall potted indoor plant and a bookshelf with neatly arranged books and decor add a touch of greenery and character. The scene feels warm and inviting, with a hint of personal and artistic charm.
The view from my desk right now!

Cheers,

Jen
